Genesis Manor I is where this all started. Gerry Markie opened this house in 1999 after decades as a nurse, convinced that seniors who needed real daily care should not have to give up living in a real home to get it. Twenty-seven years later it is still a six-resident home on a quiet residential street in the Alta Loma neighborhood, run by her daughter Alaina. Families who tour here often say the first thing they notice is that it smells like someone is cooking.
Her daughter Alaina Hendrick, M.S.N., has been the certified administrator here since 2017 and also administers Genesis Manor II, which is why one phone number reaches her for either home. Alaina’s background includes hospice care and clinical experience at San Antonio Regional Hospital. Learn more about Alaina.
Genesis Manor I is one of five homes. Compare all five side by side.
Who This Home Is Right For
Genesis Manor I suits an older adult who needs hands-on help every day and would rather have it in a house than a building. Help with bathing, dressing, toileting, and mobility. Medications given on schedule rather than remembered. Someone in the house at all hours.
It works well for residents in the early and middle stages of dementia, and for residents already receiving home health or hospice care. It is not the right home for someone who is actively trying to leave the house or who needs an awake caregiver through the night, because we are not a secured setting and nighttime response is on call rather than continuous. If that is your situation, call anyway and we will tell you what to look for.
What the House Is Like
Up to six residents, four private rooms and one shared room. Meals are cooked in the kitchen, three a day plus snacks, eaten at one table.
A caregiver lives on site around the clock, seven days a week. A licensed physician visits monthly. Medications are delivered to the home six days a week. Podiatrists, hairdressers, and physical therapists come to the house rather than the other way around.
The Neighborhood
Sacramento Avenue sits in Alta Loma, in the foothills of northern Rancho Cucamonga, on a residential street rather than a commercial corridor. San Antonio Regional Hospital is about fifteen minutes away and Kaiser Fontana about twenty. Parking is on the street directly out front. Visiting hours are whenever you want to visit.

What a Visit to This Home Looks Like
Three steps, no pressure, and no paperwork on the day.
Before you come
Call the number above and spend a few minutes describing your loved one’s care needs. We will tell you before you drive out whether this home can meet them.
When you arrive
The administrator walks you through the house, including the four private rooms, the shared room, the kitchen, and the yard. You will meet the caregivers who would be working with your loved one. Come at mealtime if you want to see it at its most normal; families who tour here often say the first thing they notice is that it smells like someone is cooking.
After the visit
No deposit and no paperwork on the day. If it feels right, the next step is a care assessment. If it does not, tell us and we will suggest other homes worth seeing.
